Hacin designed a warm and organic workspace with hospitable amenities for the East Coast headquarters of BioMed Realty, a leading provider of real estate solutions to the life science and technology industries. The building’s unique angular footprint and glass-walled exterior was used to define the program and the design team deployed a rectangular ‘pinwheel’ concept while highlighting the 360-degree views of Cambridge, Boston, and the Charles River. Custom shared workstations, community spaces, and multiple conference rooms fill the floorplan, including a prominent meeting room visible upon entry which boasts a 32’ telescoping door. The warm oak color palette and decorative lighting fixtures, paired with functional seating and tables, were inspired by a hospitality aesthetic and bring an increasingly domestic atmosphere to the workplace. Natural materials are prominently featured in the LEED Gold-certified offices, utilizing wood, wool, and felt to convey texture and enhance the space’s acoustics. The art displayed throughout the office complements the interior design concept and was sourced through Art in Giving, an organization that raises funds for cancer research through the sale of fine art.
