Xinchang Micro-regeneration

Xinchang Historic Town is located in the suburb of Shanghai. The old town is in a deteriorated condition and needs rejuvenation. Instead of macro surgical planning strategy, we have adopted a micro acupuncture-like intervention approach to regenerate the place. Low white walls are the apparent signature of the old town and emerge as the driving element in our design. They define spaces, act as urban furniture, organizes and imply circulations, and bring a familiar sense of materiality and image to people.
